Virginia City.jpgVirginia City’s emergence as a community began in 1859 with the first major discovery of silver on the eastern slope of northern Nevada’s Mount Davidson. The “Comstock Lode” as the find was named, was the first major discovery of silver in the United States, and was soon overrun with miners eager to make their fortunes. Merchants, barkeeps, hotel builders and the like shortly followed, quickly turning this isolated area into the boomtown known as Virginia City.

Hoover Dam - Black Canyon, Nevada

Hoover Dam.jpgHoover Dam was an immense construction project that was initiated to control damage caused by the annual flooding of the Colorado River in the areas along the lower Colorado where it flowed between Arizona and Nevada.
 
Named for President Herbert Hoover who was most influential in endorsing the Dam’s construction, Hoover Dam was built in the Black Canyon area of the Colorado, spanning the Arizona and Nevada state borders.
