Nevada Vacations

The state of Nevada (110,561 square miles) is unique unto itself and has a number of interesting and unusual characteristics. If you love to vacation in the sun where the weather is stable and the summer is hot and dry – with no dripping humidity or torrential rain - Nevada is the place for you.  The Silver State is bordered by Oregon on the Northwest, Idaho on the Northeast, Utah on the East, Arizona on the Southeast and California on the West.

There are many things to see and do in Nevada. Lake Tahoe is a popular tourist attraction as well as a spot that is beloved by local residents.  A large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, it is located along the border between Nevada and California just west of Carson City. The lake is known for the clarity of its water and the panorama of surrounding mountains on all sides and is home to a number of ski resorts, summer outdoor recreation and tourist attractions.

In the winter time, the Lake Tahoe area boasts a number of ski resorts. Mt. Rose is the highest peak in the area and the closest resort to the Reno airport. On January 5, Mt. Rose celebrates Elvis Day since it is the birthday of Elvis Presley, still loved and known as “The King”.   The slopes of the resort become a sea of staff members dressed like Elvis. “Chances are Elvis will issue your lift ticket, fit your skis and even teach your lesson.”

Diamond Peak refers to itself as “Lake Tahoe’s Friendliest Mountain”. Offering stunning views of Lake Tahoe, it provides an excellent learning environment for beginners as well as challenging slopes for experts. This resort is a wonderful Nevada vacation for families with their Child Ski Center and money-saving Tahoe Family Ski Packages.

Mt. Charleston, located in the Spring Mountain Range, is located just 35 miles from Las Vegas and offers activities to visitors all year round. Reaching a height of 11,913 feet, it is the third highest peak in the state and a delightful place for your Nevada vacation. On your drive up the mountain, there is wildlife to be seen. Wild burros and horses can be found roaming throughout the region, as well as many different types of birds such as humming birds, eagles, and woodpeckers.
Tourists and locals alike enjoy visiting Mt. Charleston in the summer time to escape the desert heat since the air is about 20 degrees cooler on the mountain. There are many options on how you spend your day since Mt. Charleston boasts seven campgrounds with more than 180 campsites and about 160 picnic sites with RV spaces available.
Mt. Charleston Lodge has charming log cabins with fireplaces, double wide whirlpool bath and shower and private decks so that visitors can view the mountains. The lodge restaurant offers such delicacies as elk chops, pheasant and ostrich filet in addition to their regular fare of hamburgers, chicken and steak.
