The Red Rock Canyon is located in the Mojave Desert in Nevada, not far from Las Vegas.  The Red Rock Canyon covers 197,000 acres and is supported by The Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association (RRCIA) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).  A visit to Red Rock Canyon offers more than just beautiful scenery and desert plant and wild life.  A visit to Red Rock Canyon can easily be an all day event.

You can visit the Visitor’s Center at Red Rock Canyon to learn about the culture, the geology, the ecology, and all of the things that you can enjoy during your visit.  The Visitor’s Center is a 7,600 sq. ft. facility, to there are many things to see.

Take the scenic drive through Red Rock Canyon to see the sights.  You can stop at one of the numerous stop-off points and hike the trails, look for some wolves or deadly amphibians, or take some photographs.  Check at the Visitor’s Center to see if Red Rock Canyon is running a photography contest and enter your best shot.  There are also places throughout Red Rock Canyon for some off-roading fun.

You can also participate in some hiking or rock climbing while you visit Red Rock Canyon.  There are hiking trails, which are separated by level of difficulty, that you can find throughout the canyon.  You can read about them in the brochure that you will receive upon your entrance to Red Rock Canyon.  Rock climbing guides are available both at the Visitor’s Center and at the Bookstore.

Bikers love the Red Rock Canyon, too.  There are bicycle trails throughout the canyon as well as the Bicycle Pavilion, where bikers can stop to enjoy a cold drink and a scenic view over the canyon.  The Bicycle Pavilion is also a popular place for families to enjoy a cookout.

Don’t miss the Lizard Lounge at the Red Rock Canyon Exhibit Area.  The Lizard Lounge is a haven for Chucky, the chuckwalla, and other rescued wild life from the Red Rock Canyon, Mojave Desert, Nevada.  The folks at Red Rock Canyon want you to know that none of the animals at the Lizard Lounge ended up there because they were captured.  All of the animals are rescues and would not have made it in their natural environment.
