Visiting the Animal Ark in Reno, Nevada

Located just to the northwest of Reno, Nevada is the Animal Ark. The Ark is a wildlife sanctuary located on 38 acres that provides homes to a number of animals that would have trouble surviving in the wild. In fact, many of the animals would have been euthanized had it not been for the Animal Ark.

The “Comstock Lode” as the find was named, was the first major discovery of silver in the United States, and was soon overrun with miners eager to make their fortunes. Merchants, barkeeps, hotel builders and the like shortly followed, quickly turning this isolated area into the boomtown known as Virginia City.

Named for President Herbert Hoover who was most influential in endorsing the Dam’s construction, Hoover Dam was built in the Black Canyon area of the Colorado, spanning the Arizona and Nevada state borders.
