Visiting the Animal Ark in Reno, Nevada

Located just to the northwest of Reno, Nevada is the Animal Ark. The Ark is a wildlife sanctuary located on 38 acres that provides homes to a number of animals that would have trouble surviving in the wild. In fact, many of the animals would have been euthanized had it not been for the Animal Ark.

Visitors who come to the Ark can expect to see a variety of animals, including wolves, bears, cheetahs, tigers, owls, and more. They get to see these beautiful creatures in habitats that resemble the ones in which they would have lived in the wild. The animals in the sanctuary act as representatives of the wild and help to educate the public on just how important it is to preserve the wilderness. In fact, you can even adopt one of the animals for a $100 annual fee.

Without a doubt, a visit to the Animal Ark is going to be a one of a kind educational experience where you can learn more about ecosystems, top predators, and how the loss of habitat affects everything, from animal to human. It is also going to be a place where the whole family can have a good time and see some of their favorite animals without the overwhelming crowds that you get at most of the large zoos.

The Animal Ark has plenty of unique attractions as well. Occasionally, visitors will get to see a “cheetah run,” or participate in a “wolf howl.” However, these events don’t happen every day, and you should check the calendar on their website (www.animalark.com) to see the dates and times of their special events. Even if you don’t go to the Ark on the day of one of their special events (which cost extra) you are still in for a treat.

Currently, Animal Ark is open from April 1 to November 2 from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. They are even open on Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, and Columbus Day. Though they are closed during the winter, they do try to open for at least one weekend during the winter months to give the public a chance to see all of the animals wearing their winter coats.

Admission to Animal Ark is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and children aged 3-12. Kids that are aged two and under are admitted free.

It is a great chance to connect with nature and show the kids the importance of conservancy.

Hi, what a wonderful organization you have.!! I participated in the Great Rabbit Adoption in Reno in 2006–the most rewarding and fun experience of my life.
I volunteered about 15 hrs a week on top of a 40 hr work week. I haven't been able to fill the void since the successful placement of these buns. Even though the Ark is closed to public right now, i figure animals still need to be taken care of and would love the chance to volunteer at some level. (child leaving the nest after 18 years) and i have plenty of love, care, admiration, and respect to give.

Please email me back with more information or an opportunity to meet with you.

    Thank you,
    (tigriswen)
